woodblock prints from NationalGalleryNSW






As we are doing print making next semester I thought these images would / could be inspiring.They are simple in method-you carve out the high lights from a wooden block leaving the shadows to print.
The block is inked with a roller, then the paper is pressed against the block either with a hand tool or more commonly by a press similar to the one we have at school. There can be a different block for each colour or the one block can be inked with several colours -fun and looks good when the design is simple and bold Most of the shown images are by Margaret Preston
